| Our Project Our project is simple and clear We plan to renovate a Playing & Learning Center and Youth Center in Ludwigshafen, just a few minutes away from the University of Mannheim where we study. This renovation will allow these children to spend their days in a colourful and pleasant environment again. A fully renovated center will improve the quality of life of these kids dramatically and allow them to have a lot of fun! Why we have chosen this project The Playing & Learning Center is currently old and worn out. It provides daycare for 85 children from age 3 to age 14, while their parents go to work or look after their children. At the moment there are between 20 to 30 young persons from the age of 10 to 18 who spend most of their free time in the Youth Center. We plan to rearrange the new Music Room together with the Tone Studio. The facilities are located in the suburbs, inhabited by residents with very low incomes. The city’s local authorities together with the ecumenical association for the social burning points (die Ökumenische Fördergemeinschaft für soziale Brennpunkte) look after the above mentioned facilities. Unfortunately, they do not have enough financial and personal resources to implement the required and desired extensive renovations. What we want to do In order to be highly effective and not to waste money, we will perform most of the renovation work oin person, with our own hands. That is what we call hands-on experience. Indeed, we are all highly motivated and committed to this project. In July of this year 2010, we will all take some time off to renovate the center and offer it to the children of Ludwigshafen.
